Apache was a 3 year old paint American Mustang stallion when he came to us.  He had been blind since birth and had not been handled at all, except to be chased around by his owner when she needed to move him from paddock to paddock.  Apache's owner moved away from her farm and abandoned him.  He was destined for slow starvation, and was already 200 pounds underweight, severely dehydrated and completely lacking in trust and social skills.  He was a handful.  Since his arrival at the sanctuary, Apache has thrived.  He has gained over 200 pounds, is learning that humans are not the enemy and even enjoys grooming, carrots and other treats.  He has adapted well to his new home, plays across the fence with his pal, Matt and runs madly around his paddock playing and bucking.  Apache now greets visitors at the gate and thoroughly enjoys his new job as the sanctuary's ambassador.

Every animal at Windhorse Sanctuary has a story.  We are committed to continuing this important work and welcome the continuing support of our communities in Sarasota and Ocala.
