Windhorse Sanctuary is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization which is a permanent home for special-needs, abused and displaced horses, dogs and cats.  Windhorse Sanctuary is not a rescue organization but a sanctuary which provides a life-long, loving home for the special animals that come here.  Many come from rescue organizations and are considered to be unadoptable due to their medical, behavioral and aging issues.  Some are simply too old or infirm to work any longer and will live out their last days at the sanctuary in peace and contentment.  Every animal at Windhorse Sanctuary receives ongoing care, socialization, training and lots of affection.  The goal is to provide a safe, stable and natural environment for all the animals.  The horses enjoy green pastures and the shelter of a barn in bad weather,  the dogs run and play and swim in the pond and the cats enjoy their indoor/outdoor habitat, complete with jungle gym.  All receive nutritious food and top quality medical care.

Windhorse Sanctuary is currently caring for 34 horses, ponies and donkeys, 15 dogs and 11 cats.  Nearly all of them require special care of one kind or another.  Windhorse is over 90% self-funded, and must limit the numbers of animals we bring to the sanctuary in order to continue to provide appropriate care for all.  We must turn away several animals in need every week because we simply do not have the space or finances to provide for them.  Because of the numbers of animals already living at the sanctuary, we accept only the most needy animals that we believe will thrive in this environment.
